Tutorial(spoilers)

The enemy behavior

1. If the worm chases you, you can break line of sight to escape.
2. You can also sneak behind the worm without being spotted.
3.  If you hide it will hunt you. When it finds you it will stop and stare giving you a brief chance to escape.
4. It can only chase you if:
   1. You are in its line of sight while it is running
   2. You stay in its line of sight while it is walking or standing for too long.
5. If you stay in the worm's line of sight for too long while it is staring at you, it will go into an inescapable sprint and kill you.
6. After you collect the key the worm will run indefinitely until you escape the level through the hatch.

Almond Water

1. Bottles will speed you up temporarily and increase your score.
2. The jug on each level permanently increases your speed for the level.
3. Use these to escape corners while the worm is chasing you or just to get around the level faster.

Levels

1. Difficulty increases the deeper you go. The worm will run more often and for longer.
2. Levels will get bigger at a certain depth.
3. You can escape the level by collecting the key and then going down the escape hatch.

This is an old contest submission for the #NoticeMe GXC and Gamemaker Jam. 

Story:

Rat no- clipped out of reality. Go deeper to discover the terrible secret of the backrooms. Will you survive? Or be forgotten...

The Entity:

The Worm, lord of skin stealers, hunts wanderers around the backrooms stalking its prey before capturing and feeding them to other entities.

Of all sightings by survivors no one has seen it's true form. The Worm is a lanky humanoid that slithers on hundreds of tentacles shrouded by black, static fog.

Features:

• Randomized mazes
• An intelligent entity that tracks the player
• Scaling difficulty as you go deeper
• Collect as much almond water as you can

V 1.1 : Focus on improved core play experience

2 New Mechanics:

1. Almond water now gives you speed!
2. When you have the key, the level will enter a "dark phase" and The Worm will sprint endlessly.

Cleaned up audio

• Removed overly jarring noises and toned down distortion.
• Added a new track for the dark phase.

Cleaned up UI

• Added a key symbol to show whether the player has the key.
• Added display for ounces and gallons of almond water collected.
• Scaled down image resolution for compatibility with smaller screen sizes
